Nouns are name words. There are different types of nouns: proper, common, abstract and collective
Proper nouns
Proper nouns are particular things that we name as important.
A city is not a proper noun but a particular city like Manchester is. This is the name of a particular place so it is a proper noun.
Titles of books are proper nouns like Oliver Twist. This book was written by a particular person, Charles Dickens.
Names of particular ships, planes and buildings like Titanic, Enola Gay and Buckingham Palace
Titles are proper nouns Mr , Miss Ms
Particular days of the week and months of the year
Monday and July etc
Common Nouns
These are everyday things; pens, pencils buildings cities, towns library, shop wall
They only become proper nouns when we write about a particular place.
So we have a building (common noun) but Buckingham Palace( proper noun) is a particular building.
Abstract Nouns
Abstract nouns are things that you can't touch taste smell or hear. They incude things like beauty, joy happiness. They are generally feelings
Collective Nouns
Collective nouns are the names we give to groups of things. A swarm of bees a litter of kittens and a herd of cows. The words swarm, litter and herd are collective nouns.

Remember proper nouns start with a capital letter.
