Great Buildings of the World
This is an excellent site. More than 750 great buildings from around the world and across history are illustrated. Information is also given about the architects.

The BBC tells you, in a Flash animation, how Iron Age people built large round houses.
Paint The Cathedral
From the BBC History site - find out how medieval cathedrals were decorated on the outside and paint one for yourself.

Robives.com Designing Paper Animations

Terrific site, which was originally part of Flying Pig (see above). Explanations of masses of mechanisms together with downloadable templates (a few are free). By studying the simple animations, many children (and, indeed, many teachers) could design their own paper / cardboard mechanisms. I just love this site.
Soda Play

This is an incredible site and difficult to describe simply. You can build virtual models which can include springy and non-springy components and which obey rules of gravity. You can then set your models going and see what they do. The results are surprising. The skill level is high!

A site designed to encourage and inspire women and girls to take up (or return to) careers in science and technology.
Zelda's Zany Zoo
Design a new animal habitat for a local zoo. Visit lots of websites on the way to gather information.
