The London Eye
stands next to the former County Hall (once home to the London County Council and later to
the Greater London Council) on the south bank of The River Thames.
These photos show the wheel from both sides. |
One of the capsules on the London Eye.
You can also see part of the maintenance stairway. The capsule
rotates as the wheel turns so that the floor is always level. |
The London Eye reflected in the windows
of the Royal Festival Hall, a London Landmark from an earlier
(slightly) time. |
On the northern bank of The Thames, not far from the London Eye, is
the Palace of Westminster, which contains the Houses of Parliament. |

The
reconstructed Globe Theatre, only a short distance from the site of Shakespeare's original
on the south bank of the Thames. The tall, narrow white house a couple of doors along
is Cardinal's Wharf,
once the home of Sir Christopher Wren. |
A closer view of Cardinal's Wharf. Wren
lived here during the building of St.Paul's Cathedral. The house was
built during the 1600s and is named after Cardinal Wolsey. |
London's
Millenium Bridge, a footbridge across the Thames, which crosses from St. Paul's on the
north side of the river to The Tate Modern art gallery on the South Bank. |
In this view
looking south downstream from the south bank of the Thames you can see Tower Bridge in
the distance. |
The bridge is a
popular tourist attraction and there are often hundreds of people walking across it at any
time. |
To the right of
the picture you can see the Tate Modern, which occupies a building that was once a power
station and to the left is the Globe Theatre. |

London's latest landmark, the Swiss Re
Tower, which has become known as the Gherkin, rises above the City
skyline. It is due for completion in 2004 and will be the 2nd
highest building in the City of London. It was designed by Sir
Norman Foster and is on the site of the old Baltic Exchange building
, which was badly damaged by an IRA bomb. |

Love it or loath it The Guggenheim
Museum in Bilbao is a remarkable building. It is both a home for
works of art and a work of art itself. Designed by Frank O. Gehry,
it is built of limestone and Titanium. The complex sinuous curves
were calculated by computer. |
St John's Tower in Liverpool can be seen
all over the city. Now more commonly known as the Radio City Tower
it houses a local radio station. It was originally built to house a
revolving restaurant. |
